El arte de cultivar amigos : )

Recuerdo muy bien una ocasión, cuando fui misionera, en que nos visitó una Autoridad General de la Iglesia en una conferencia de zona.  Una de las cosas que dijo es que nos iba a dar permiso de leer un libro adicional a las escrituras y los materiales misionales. Eso era algo completamente inusual, por supuesto, pero él explicó que el contenido del libro eran principios que nos iban a ser de maxima utilidad no sólo durante el resto de nuestra misión, sino también durante el resto de nuestra vida, porque nos iba a dar ideas muy claras y muy prácticas sobre el arte de cultivar amigos.  Yo no pude comprar el libro durante la misión, pero no olvidé el consejo de aquella autoridad general.  A los dos días de regresar a casa, tuve la alegría de poder ir a una de las grandes librerías de la ciudad de México, y “echarme un clavado” entre muchos libros maravillosos. Sin embargo, como sólo me alcanzaba para comprar uno, elegí el que varios meses atrás nos había sido recomendado.  Al leerlo, entendí porqué la autoridad general nos había concedido permiso de leerlo aún durante el periodo de la misión.  El autor escribió este libro para ayudar a los profesionales a triunfar en sus carreras mejorando sus habilidades y su capacidad de comunicación. Sin embargo, es útil para todo lector que desea aprender y reafirmar los principios de las buenas relaciones con todas las personas que nos rodean, y llevarlos a la práctica puede ser una de las mejores acciones que podamos emprender.  Ahora yo lo recomiendo ampliamente a  nuestros ex misioneros, ¡y a todos los cuenta habientes del Banco de Posibilidades!

El libro se titula “Cómo ganar amigos e influir sobre las personas”, escrito por Dale Carnegie.  :  )

I remember very well an occasion, while I was a missionary, when a General Authority of the Church visited us at a zone conference. One of the things he told us was that he was going to give us permission to read a book additional to the Scriptures and the missionary materials. That was something completely unusual, of course, but he explained that the content of the book were principles that would be of great usefulness for us, not only during the rest of our mission, but also during the rest of our life, because it was going to give very clear and practical ideas on the art of making friends. I wasn't able to buy the book during the mission, but I didn't forget the suggestion of that General Authority. Two days after I returned home, I had the joy to go to some of the big libraries in Mexico City, and "dive" into many wonderful books. However, since I couldn't afford more than only one, I picked  the one I had been recommended months before. While reading it, I understood why the general authority had given us permission to read it within the period of the mission. The author wrote this book to help the professionals to succeed in their careers improving their abilities of communication. However, it is useful to any reader who desires to learn and reaffirm the principles of good relationships with all the people that surround us; and putting them into practice can be can be one of the best actions we can take. Now I highly recommend it to our ex missionaries, and to all the account holders in the Bank of Possibilities!
