Todos
somos muy parecidos en las generalidades de la vida. Todos comemos, todos
dormimos, todos nos sentamos más o menos igual, y actuamos en forma similar en
el trabajo, en la escuela y en nuestras actividades diarias. ¿Qué es lo
que nos hace distintos, lo que nos da un toque particular y nos hace
distinguirnos del resto? ¿Cómo logramos crear una personalidad propia, esa que
nos proporciona la oportunidad de ser recordados, tomados en cuenta, incluso
considerados para ser parte de algo que deseamos, como un trabajo, una beca,
una cita con una persona especial, o una oportunidad de concretar un buen
negocio ?
Es
verdad que a aquellos que tienen grandes y muy evidentes cualidades, como una
gran belleza física, una estatura sobresaliente, un porte muy carismático u
otras características llamativas, pueden aparentemente tener
mayores ventajas.
Pero
en esta ocasión hagamos énfasis en la gran importancia de las pequeñas cosas.
Cuando una persona llamativa o pudiente como la que acabo de describir
descuida las cosas pequeñas, puede muy fácilmente echar a perder lo que llevaba
ganado con su carisma. Y así mismo, una persona promedio, o aún menor que el
promedio, maximiza sus oportunidades cuando invierte dedicación y
esfuerzo en magnificar las cosas pequeñas.
Porque
las cosas pequeñas cuentan, y son MUY importantes, debido a que llegan a
notarse de una manera muy sutil pero muy significativa, sobre todo en el
competitivo mundo del trabajo y las relaciones humanas.
Resulta interesante observer la cantidad de
personas que piensan que la ortografía no es tan importante, escudándose en que
finalmente, “es más importante el fondo que la forma”. La calidad y la belleza
de la letra escrita, un arte en vías de extinction, y sin embargo, ¡con tanto
potencial para beneficiar a quien lo ejerce! La manera en que escribimos
nuestros correos electrónicos y nuestros mensajes de texto, la manera en que
saludamos mientras establecemos contacto visual, la forma en que agradecemos
cualquier acto grande o pequeño que se ha hecho por nosotros, la puntualidad en
nuestros compromisos, las cosas que denota nuestro lenguaje corporal, es decir
nuestras actitudes y nuestros gestos faciales… ¡y tantos detalles más!
El mundo de las pequeñas cosas es enorme y
fascinante, porque una vez que descubrimos cuan importantes son estas cosas
pequeñas y tomamos consciencia de ellas, nos daremos cuenta de las ventajas que
nos brindará el cuidar de ellas durante el resto de nuestras vidas. Las pequeñas cosas pueden, realmente, hacernos
diferentes en un mundo donde somos parecidos en tantas cosas, y abrirnos las
puertas a nuevos mundos de posibilidades.

We all are very similar in life’s
generalities. We all eat, sleep, sit down pretty much the same way, and act a
similar way at work, school, and our daily activities. What makes us different,
what gives us a particular touch and distinguishes us from the rest? How do we
get a unique personality, the one that gives us the opportunity to be
remembered, taken into consideration to be part of something we desire, such as
a job, a scholarship, a date with someone special, or an opportunity for a good
business?
It is true that those who have very
noticeable qualities, such as a great physical beauty, an outstanding height, a
very charismatic demeanor, or other striking characteristics, may have higher
advantage.
But in this occasion, let us emphasize the
great importance of the small things. When an attractive or wealthy person like
the one I have just described, neglects the small things, he can easily mess up
what he had gained with his charisma. Likewise, an average person, or even less
than average, maximizes his opportunities when he invests effort and dedication
in magnifying the small things.
Because the small things count, and they
are VERY important, because they get to be noticed in a very subtle, yet very
significant way; especially in the competitive labor pool and in the human
relationships world.

do we mean?
It is interesting to see the amount of
people who think that spelling is not that important, justifying themselves
with the excuse that finally “the inside is much more important than the
outside”.
The quality and the beauty of handwriting,
an endangered art, yet with so much potential to benefit the one who does it!
The way we write our e-mails, and our text
messages, the way we salute while we make visual contact, the way we show
gratitude for any big or small act of service somebody did for us, the
punctuality in our appointments, the things our body language shows, that
means, our attitudes and facial gestures… and many other details!
The world of the small things is huge and
fascinating, because once we find out how important these small things are, and
we are aware of them ,we will realize the advantages of caring about them
during the rest of our lives. The small things can really make us different in
a world where we are similar in many aspects, and open us the doors to new
